Puma 2 Clubman

This car was built by Neville Darwin and is a well-known car in the Puma Clubman and clubman scene. 

Puma 2 is powered by a Nissan s13 SR20DET (about 180rwkw) and has a 5 speed gear box. The colour is stunning and has the normal stone chips you'd see on a driven example. Puma 2 has:

There are a few genuine Nissan parts and other miscellaneous parts that I bought and wanted to replace, which I'll also provide.

The not so good is that Puma 2 could probably do with a new clutch, which I have and will come with the car. She still drives. 

I have a bunch of documents which contain the history of Puma 2 from Neville, including the engineering report for ease of registration in your state. She has ACT rego and has previously been registered in SA.

2018 Puma33 (Vic) Clubman and Trailer

Nissan SR20DET 2.0 Turbo S15 engine, S14 Nissan 5 speed manual, custom made alloy fuel tank (pressure tested), new heavy duty clutch & Lighten flywheel, VL Commodore limited slip diff, Commodore 4 wheel disc (fronts slotted), brake bias adjustment, AVO adjustable suspension, 17" wheels & Michelin tyres- as new. All parts other than the engine & gearbox were either new or reconditioned when built. Engine & G/Box came from a car that had done 30,000kms, both are very good. Car comes with its Rego plates (PUMA 33) and some spares as well as a rear exit exhaust and wind deflectors which may be required for rego at changeover.

Chevron Clubman

It is powered by a Toyota Twin Cam 2TG motor with a Toyota 5 speed gearbox. The sale comes with a spare 2TG motor and gearbox. The 2TG was considered the flagship engine of Toyota's 1600 class until it was superseded by the 4AGE in the 1980s. The 2TG is still a popular engine for conversions in to 'classic' Celicas and Corollas and are often suitable for classic and formula racing series. The clubbie has a HT/HK rear end and Torana HB front end.

This car was built in 1992 by Chris Barton, the SA agent for Chevron Sports Cars of New Zealand., and was purchased by me following display at the Adelaide Motor Show in September, 1993.
It is fully registered in South Australia on Historic Club Registration (90 days use per year and very economic).
It was originally engineered by Tonkin Consulting engineers in Adelaide. No hurry to sell.

Kestrel Clubman, KC4-9

Immaculate condition with a Toyota 20 Valve black top engine with custom ram tubes and air box. Engine is fitted with Phil Lem extractors and exhaust system. It has a Dry Sump system with double scavange pump, oil cooler and custom sump. This system has been tested at Mallala and The Bend for function.

The Kestrel has a limited kilometres (2,400km) and is painted in two pack yellow paint with dark lightweight Kevlar upholstery. The owner is unable to drive the car due to illness.

It is fitted with a Toyota T50 sprinter gearbox and Ford Escort rear axle, fitted with a Quaife differential and aluminium housing and has a 4.41 ratio. It has a custom aluminium fuel tank with internal fuel catch tank system. Harness seat belt mountings are fitted but it comes with new road seatbelts. Comes with foam seat inserts for motor sport activities. Currently road registered.

Westfield SE Clubman

A change of plans means that my Westfield SE is for sale. It runs a Nissan SR-20, Haltech Elite1000 computer with wideband O2 sensor, ITB's, 11.3 : 1 pistons , ported head , Tomei cams, a baffled sump that sits flush with the bottom of the chassis and Chrome-Moly flywheel. The engine is mated to T-50 5-speed, Escort diff with Quaife LSD , quick-rack steering , wide track front end, 4 wheel discs with dual master cylinders and balance bar set up, 15 x 7 Watanabe alloys with Toyo R888's.

Tuning at Boost Worx dyno saw it make 120KW at the rear wheels, so with a weight of around 550-600KG, it's quick.

Included is a spare Escort diff centre, the original full length front guards, a hip hugging race seat and other bits and pieces.

Car first built and registered in 1997 so falls under the 25 year historic logbook scheme, therefore no stamp duty and cheap registration! Has traveled approximately 8,000km's since built with not a lot of time spent on public roads as it was mainly used for circuit sprints, and hillclimbs before I purchased it.   I've returned it to its original road configuration and use it for spirited cruising through the Adelaide Hills where it's perfectly suited.

Stryker Club

Barry Hissey from Port Pirie developed and built a Stryker Clubman, which was going to be the first of several such cars. Barry ran an engineering workshop in the town and had a long car history. Unfortunately, Barry has passed on a few months ago and his wife, Maxine wishes to move the car on to someone who can restore and drive it in the appropriate manner.
The Stryker clubman for sale was built in 2002 and was registered in South Australia. Several more were supposed to be built but that never happened. So, it is a one-off clubman with an all aluminium, hand formed body. It currently has a Toyota 4age engine in it but comes with a spare engine which is a 20 Valve Toyota Silvertop.
When registered, the Stryker did a Climb to the Eagle run then onto Victor Harbour for lunch and also took part in an organised run to Nuriootpa with ClubbiesSA.
Currently needs some restoration and refitting work to get back on the road but the bits are there.

Parts/work completed

Car runs perfectly, is serviced very regularly. There are not many cars on the road that will keep up with a Puma, especially a built/forged one. Engine was built for significantly more power, which can easily be done with a larger turbo, however it was decided that 200kw in a car that weighs around 750kgs is plenty.  This car cruises through the hills as perfectly and can easily be turned into a track monster, that is reliable, lightweight and a great drive.

1996 PRB S2 Clubman

The car's original owner entered it into several championships, with the car often finishing in the podium positions. The car has now been setup for road use.

LOTUS EUROPA

Lotus Europa body with good interior, dashboard, suspension etc., that has some sort of .29 or .029 wind resistance which is supposedly fantastic. The body would need sanding back and re-painting. Glass is all there.

The engine and gearbox is missing but otherwise it is intact. This car might be better suited to a clubman enthusiast who is frustrated by the lack of terminal speed.

There are easy to fit Fuego gearboxes that fit the newer ford variable timing motors that can be turbo'd. There are kits available from Spyder cars or someone might fit a Nissan turbo.

Subaru Special

An ICV using Subaru components; (engine, transaxle, steering & hub carriers).

Engine is an EJ20G from a JDM Subaru Legacy, currently only 41000 kms, around 200 bhp, (Subaru designed these early turbo-charged engines for 400 bhp), 5-speed gearbox with RH gearshift, as for traditional open wheel racing cars.

Wishbone suspension using spherical bearings and rod-ends, with pull-rod actuated AVO coil-over dampers. Front brake rotors are Subaru with Wilwood calipers, rear brakes use Mazda RX7 rotors and calipers. Front tyres are 215/50x16 rears are 225/50x16. Weight ~ 750kg
50 litre fuel capacity; 2 x 25 litre foam-filled petrol tanks are located in a protected area.

Provision for full harness seat belts, (have never been fitted).

This car has a strong chassis with significant side impact protection, (side mounted radiators), much safer than a traditional Clubman. The chassis has been TIG welded in critical areas including suspension links otherwise Nickel bronze was used.

Engine works well from 2000 to 3000rpm, easy to drive in traffic, but when using full turbo boost a driver with competition experience is recommended.
Designed & built by me (an experienced Racing Car Driver/mechanic/restorer) focusing on the "racing car experience" and driver protection.

Kestrel Clubman

Old style - original prototype Kestrel.
Built in 1974 by Greg Mobbs, fully checked and approved in 1985, by engineer Bob Burke who had it fully registered - all approved by Dept Motor Vehicles (all paper included in history records).
Engine is a ULP 1600 Ford Escort Cosworth with Weber carby.


Current owner (fastidious 82 year old gentleman) as kept it very tidy since taking ownership in 2009.
Has had new clutch, new Scorcher Electric Ignition Distributer, new seats in black vinyl and red piping and regularly serviced.

Over it's life it has never been raced, nor crashed, and has traveled very low miles, mainly run in Bay to Birdwood and other car club events.

Last registered in 2015 (current owner has another historic vehicle), but car should now qualify for Historic Vehicle 90 day Registration in SA. Regrettable sale, and best suited for someone up to 5'9'' as the seating position is snug and non-adjustable.

Factory built , number 47, by Elfin, in 2004. Toyota 4AG GE 20 valve motor and Toyota T50 Gearbox. First registered in November 2004. Arguably one of the best looking clubmans built, with its Clamshell front mudguards and inbuilt headlights. Recently passed WA llicensing following many months of engineering inspections so is fully road legal. Great fun car to drive and ideal for weekend thrill rides, all that's needed is a flying helmet and goggles. Needs a tonneau cover made for the back, bonnet is a bit tatty and occasionally jumps out of 4th, but all can be repaired for genuine buyer. Year of manufacture means so many boring bits required by more modern cars (windscreen!) aren't required on this one so a very raw driving experience awaits! Engine: Corolla 1300 supercharged, twin 2" SU carbies, runs castor oil added to fuel to lubricate supercharger, separate injection system on pressure switch for water/methanol mix to prevent detonation boost blow off and dump pipe to vent in event of over-boost, oil cooler, T50 gearbox, Bilstein coil-overs.

Lack of opportunity to use the car over the last 12 months means the Red Knob Special has to go. Had major rewire by Graham Umlauf and now much more reliable than was previously the case.

Registered to October 2012. Spares: High spec naturally aspirated 1300 Corolla engine (includes dual Weber manifold but no carbies), Corolla 5 speed gearbox (not T50), camshaft - slightly different grind to that currently fitted, supercharger drive belt, Corolla 'K' series engine manual, different shape cross braced roll bar, mould for nosecone (quite unique shape).

Puma Clubman (PUMA98)

Built by Puma designer, John Karnon. SR20 Intercooled Turbo last test developing 160 KW at rear wheels. Microtech computer, full instrumentation, Cobra Westfield seats (driver seat adjustable), side curtains, custom ROH wheels, travelled 22,000 Km.

Sirius 7 Clubman

Nissan SR20DE 2LT motor, Nissan 5 Sp gearbox, lightened Fly wheel with extreme clutch, Cortina live axle with limited slip diff 4.1, ventilated and cross drilled front discs, stainless front and rear braded brake lines, Willans 4 point harness (fitted x2), removable front brace on roll bar.

Built by Mike Laws and Warren Scarman as part of a group build of 16 cars. First registered in Nov 2003, it has only travelled 7,059 km and is in excellent condition. Winner of Clubbie National show 'n shine awards. This car is not a race car, but a very quick and reliable road car, comfortable ride, excellent handling.

Unfinished Puma Project

2007 FMS +100 Clubman

Toyota 1ZZE engine, T9 gearbox, Mazda MX5 independent rear end, Cobra 7 seats, full tonneau, Brooklands screens, ceramic coated exhaust, Toyo Proxis R888 R spec tyres on 15" 5 spoke mags.

Engine/gearbox adaption by Meridian Motorsport, and the vehicle has been wired, painted, and upholstered professionally. Includes build jigs, engineering papers etc, and has Victorian registration until December 2010. The build quality is superb and is as new, having only been driven a few times since completion. Vehicle is located in Main Ridge (Mornington Peninsula), Victoria.

1974 Factory Built ASP Clubman

1486 cc Toyota 5K (Turbocharged) fully balanced engine with baffled sump, Toyota KE70 5 speed gearbox, new Yokohama Advan A048 tyres, full restoration in 2008 by Marque Restorations Adelaide, including upholstery.

The vehicle is immaculate, and has been in my family for 20 years, reluctantly placed for sale due to time constraints.

1974 Kestrel Proto-type

Old style clubman, no computers or oxygen sensors or turbo etc, this is the original proto-type Kestrel. Fully registered in SA as 1974 Lotus and professionally built by Greg Mobbs for Les Lindop. 1600 Ford Crossflow & box. Gemini front uprights. 13in Globe Sprintmaster wheels, new tyres, new SPAX shocks, new VDO gauges, new Motolita Wheel, new suspension bushes, etc. Complete history. Other owners were Malcolm Miller and Alan Lee. Currently nearing completion of extensive spruce up. New owner can nominate colour for new interior trim and for fiberglass nose, and guards. Westfield Clubman

4AGE 20v MOTEC M4 tune by Mike Dale, race weight 540kg, (580kg road trim) race spec engine with Tighe cams and Chris Milton ported heads, multi angle valve grind plus other extensive development. Light weight fly wheel & oil cooler. Quaife quick rack, Ohlin suspension, T50 box, tranX mechanical LSD, disk brakes with Ferodo DS 3000 pads front and DS2500 rear. Superlight 13x8 rims with Toyo RA1 tyres. New six point Velo harness, two fire extinguishers; CAMS approved ROPS with side intrusion bars.

Birkin S3 Clubman

Toyota 4AGE 20 valve (quad throttle bodies), modified cooling system (routed on driver's side of engine), ceramic coated exhaust headers, lightened flywheel and Xtreme racing clutch, Motec M4 fully programmable ECU (registered with this ECU), shift light, GTech Pro RR racing computer, AVO shocks, braided steel front brake lines, Ford Sierra Type 9 5 speed gearbox, 4.11 limited slip differential, 94 kW measured at the rear wheels, twin aeroscreens (imported from UK), 4 point racing harness on driver's side (retractable lap/sash seat belts also fitted to both seats), boot and tonneau covers, lightweight 15" Japanese alloy rims (weigh 5 kgs each), Toyo R888 road/race tyres (205/50/15) with minimal wear.

1999 Honda S2000 Write Off

2 litre 4 cylinder, 176kw and 208 NM Torque, redline 9,000rpm, travelled 92,000km, 2006 model 6sp gearbox, eXtreme clutch, 5.5kg chrome molloy flywheel, new 4.56 diff (old 4.1:1 included) at 87k, brakes OK, interior and electrics are all in excellent condition.

The car has major damage to all 4 corners and I will not endorse any suspension or steering components. Have receipts for all parts and work, as well as a full service history by authorised Honda dealers. The car still runs, however does not roll. No exterior panels look to be worth keeping.

1992 PRB S2 Wide Track

Toyota 4A-GE 16 valve, balanced, alloy sump, oil cooler, T50 Hollinger close ratio gearbox, Extreme competition clutch, Quaife LSD with new 4.44 ratio, factory fitted wide-track front end, suspension fully rose-jointed all in good order, new AVO alloy bodied shocks separately adjustable for bump and rebound, Eibach ERS spring system at the rear, QuikRack, braided brake lines, Schroth harnesses (6 & 4 point),13x 8 Superlights with Kumho V70A R-spec tyres.
